Nekima Levy-Pounds is a highly-accoladed civil rights attorney, former law professor, and co-owner of Black Pearl LLC, a consulting firm with a focus in social justice. According to her website, she has a very decorated history of fighting for racial justice and advocating for social policy changes. She served as a law professor at the University of St. Thomas Law School for thirteen years and served a single-term as president of Minnesota NAACP. She continues to serve as an adviser for the Black Lives Matter movement and remain active in local protests and activism campaigns.
Levy-Pounds has been recognized on local and national levels, winning awards such as Attorney of the Year 2014 from Minnesota Lawyer, Dean’s Award for Outstanding Law Teacher of the Year 2008, UST Law “Living the Mission Award” for Excellence in Public Service 2006, and an innumerable host of other honors.
